1972年「ワッツタックス・コンサート」50周年記念、ボックスセット他2月24日発売

スタックス・レコードとクラフト・レコーディングが、1972年8月20日にロサンゼルスのメモリアル・コロシアムで開催された大規模野外チャリティ・コンサート「ワッツタックス（Wattstax）」の50周年を記念し、12CDボックスセット『Soul’d Out：The Complete Wattstax Collection』など、複数のコレクションを2月24日にリリースすると発表しました。

このチャリティ・コンサートは、10万人以上の観客を集め、アイザック・ヘイズやステイプル・シンガーズ、ルーファス・トーマス、カーラ・トーマス、ザ・バーケイズなど、当時のスタックス・レコードで最も人気のあったアーティストが出演し、「ワッツタックス」のクリエイターで、当時スタックス・レコードの社長だったアル・ベルは、このコンサートを「アメリカの歴史におけるアフリカ系アメリカ人の音楽、文化、価値観を記念する最も歓喜に満ちた祝典」と表現しました。

12CDボックスセット『Soul’d Out：The Complete Wattstax Collection』には、同コンサートの全曲を収録した6CDと、同年9月と10月にサミット・クラブで行なわれたライヴ「Live At The Summit Club」を収録した5CD、リハーサル音源や別ヴァージョンなどを収録した1CD「Additional Recordings」が収められており、そのうち31曲が未発表音源です。この未発表音源の中から、アイザック・ヘイズのソウル・ファンク・アンセム「Theme From Shaft」の未発表ヴァージョンが、新たに公開されています。

なお、12CDボックスセットには76ページのカラー本が付き、アル・ベルによる紹介文、ロブ・バウマンとA.スコット・ギャロウェイによる新たなエッセイが掲載されています。

また、6CDおよび10LPで発売される『Wattstax：The Complete Concert』には、コンサートの全ライヴ音源に加え、MCを努めたジェシー・ジャクソン牧師の開幕スピーチや会話も収録されており、こちらにもカラー本が付きます。

1CDで発売される『The Best of Wattstax』には、同コンサートから選曲した20曲が収録されており、アイザック・ヘイズ、ステイプル・シンガーズ、バーケイズ、キム・ウェストン、ルーファス・トーマス、カーラ・トーマス、アルバート・キング、エディ・フロイドらのパフォーマンスがフィーチャーされています。

そして、同コンサートのハイライトをフィーチャーした1972年のオリジナル・サントラ・アルバム『Wattstax：The Living Word』と、コンサート及び後のドキュメンタリー映画のハイライトをフィーチャーした1973年のサントラ・アルバム第2弾『Wattstax 2：The Living Word』が、それぞれオリジナル・アナログ・テープから新たにカッティングし直され、どちらも2LPでリイシューされます。
