エリック・バードン＆ジ・アニマルズは、オリジナルのジ・アニマルズが1966年に解散した後、イギリスからサンフランシスコへ拠点を移し、活動を再開します。ちょうどその時期、1967年10月から1968年12月にかけて、彼らがMGMレコードからリリースした全アルバムを収録する新たなボックスセット『When I Was Young』が、2020年2月28日に発売されることになりました。

ジ・アニマルズ解散後、ヴォーカリストのエリック・バートンは、メンバーにヴィク・ブリッグス（Vic Briggs / g, p）、ジョン・ワイダー（John Weider / g, violin, b）、ダニー・マカロック（Danny McCulloch / b）、バリー・ジェンキンス（Barry Jenkins / ds）を起用、ボブ・ディランやマザーズ・オブ・インヴェンション、ヴェルヴェット・アンダーグラウンドを手掛けたプロデューサーのトム・ウィルソンと提携し、リズム＆ブルース路線からサイケデリック・ロックへと転向しています。

ボックスセットの5枚組CDには、『Winds of Change』（1967）、『The Twain Shall Meet』（1968）、『Every One Of Us』（1968）、『Love Is』（1968）の4タイトルに加え、バンドのシングル・リリースから選曲した10曲をボーナス・トラックとして収録、全曲オリジナル・マスターテープからリマスターされ、新たなエッセイが掲載されたイラスト入りブックレットとポスターのレプリカが付くそうです。
