パティ・スミスのトリビュート公演、スプリングスティーンとフリーが「Because the Night」共演

NYCのカーネギー・ホールで3月26日、パティ・スミスのトリビュート公演「People Have The Power：A Celebration of Patti Smith」が開催され、ブルース・スプリングスティーン、レッド・ホット・チリ・ペッパーズのフリー、R.E.M.のマイケル・スタイプ、元ソニック・ユースのキム・ゴードン、ヤー・ヤー・ヤーズのカレン・O、ベン・ハーパー、ザ・ナショナルのマット・バーニンガー、ジョニー・デップ、ショーン・ペン、シャロン・ヴァン・エッテン、コートニー・バーネットなど多数の豪華ゲストが出演しました。

スプリングスティーンとフリーは、ボスとスミスが共作した大ヒット曲「Because the Night」（パティ・スミス・グループ1978年のアルバム『Easter』収録）を共演し、公演の最後は、スミスを含めた全員参加の「People Have The Power」で締めくくられました。

なお、公演のハウスバンドには、長年スミスのベーシストを務めるトニー・シャナハンとギタリストのレニー・ケイ、チャーリー・セクストン（ディランのツアー・ギタリスト）、フリー、ベンモント・テンチ（ハートブレイカーズのキーボーディスト）、スティーヴ・ジョーダン（ストーンズのツアー・ドラマー）らが参加しました。
